Job Description
Registered Nurse - Med-Surg Telemetry
The Registered Nurse is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. This role assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. The nurse administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines and influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency: Proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Education: Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing (ACEN or CCNE accredited).
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a professional nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: May be appointed temporarily while pursuing licensure.
Grade Determinations:
The grade assignment is based on the Scope, Education, and Dimension criteria, detailed in the online assessment. Criteria include Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence-Based Practice/Research.
- Nurse I (Levels I, II, III): Delivers fundamental care to assigned clients, developing technical competencies. Requires ADN/Diploma for Level I, ADN/Diploma + experience or BSN for Level II, or ADN/Diploma + more experience, BSN + experience, MSN, or Master's in a related field for Level III.
- Nurse II: Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care. Requires BSN + experience, MSN + experience, Master's in a related field + BSN + experience, or Doctoral degree.
- Nurse III: Executes responsibilities demonstrating leadership, experience, and creative approaches to complex client care management. Requires MSN + experience, Master's in a related field + BSN + experience, or Doctoral degree + experience.

Duties
The Registered Nurse will provide competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and may oversee licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants. Key duties include:
- Assisting in directing nursing education, orientation, and competencies.
- Providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation.
- Demonstrating leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaboration.
- Evaluating practice based on best evidence and providing informal constructive feedback to peers.
- Fostering a safe and supportive environment for professional development.
- Contributing professional nursing perspective to interdisciplinary team discussions.
- Partnering with others to effect change and achieve optimal outcomes.
- Supporting colleagues through knowledge sharing for safe, quality nursing care.
- Sharing educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers.
- Questioning clinical practices for evidence-based care.
- Participating in activities to sustain an evidence-based practice culture.
This position supports all 3 campuses of VA-New York Harbor Healthcare and may require rotation as needed.
