Summary
The Pharmacist Clinical Specialist functions as a mid-level practitioner working independently under defined scope of practice to directly care for patients. With prescriptive authority, the specialist is empowered to initiate, modify, and discontinue medications as needed.
Qualifications
Candidates must be U.S. citizens (or meet VA policy for non-citizens), have graduated from an ACPE accredited pharmacy program (BS Pharmacy or Pharm.D.), and hold a full, current, and unrestricted pharmacy license. Those with pending requirements may be tentatively selected until all qualifications are met.

For GS-13, one year of experience at GS-12 or equivalent is required, with a focus on clinical pharmacy practice including medication therapy management and patient outcome assessments.
Duties
The role includes comprehensive clinical functions such as initiating evidence-based pharmacotherapeutic regimens, monitoring patient medication therapies, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, and ensuring accurate documentation of care plans. Responsibilities also involve serving as a consultant in formulary and quality assurance activities, mentoring, research contribution, and participating in administrative functions.
