Position Summary
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist collaborates with medical center staff to adjudicate prior authorization drug requests and provides comprehensive medication management services through a specialty clinic. This role is integral to ensuring effective drug therapy and patient care.
Major Duties
- Adjudicate prior authorization drug requests (PADRs) with clinical review and provider discussions.
- Provide comprehensive medication management for patients on biologic medications.
- Review laboratory tests and diagnostic studies to support drug therapy.
- Communicate with prescribers for treatment plan adjustments and documentation.
- Participate in Pharmacy, Nutrition and Therapeutics (PNT) Council and related committees.
Patient Care and Clinical Duties
As the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, you will serve in a centralized specialty medication management clinic, assess medication efficacy, monitor adverse reactions, and work closely with medical staff. Additional responsibilities include mentoring pharmacy staff and precepting students and residents.
Program Management and Education
You will also engage in program management, evaluating national cost-saving initiatives, updating electronic health records, and participating in formulary management committees. The role includes educating and training pharmacy staff, technicians, and students, supporting compliance with drug therapy policies.
Conditions and Requirements
This position requires U.S. Citizenship, proficiency in English, relevant pharmacy qualifications, licensure, and passing pre-employment screenings. A 2-year trial period applies. Prior formulary management experience is preferred.
