About the AI Engineer Role at Upwind Security

Upwind Security is seeking a hands-on AI Engineer to join our team and significantly contribute to building our core intelligence engine and infrastructure. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in exploring and developing autonomous solutions designed to execute security workflows end-to-end. Your work will involve transforming cutting-edge research concepts into scalable, production-ready features, driving innovation in cybersecurity.

What You Will Build

• Internal AI Infrastructure: You will play a key role in developing and contributing to a shared internal AI platform, encompassing models, data management, training pipelines, and robust observability mechanisms.
• Autonomous Capabilities: Design and implement sophisticated solutions that automate complex security operations and streamline investigative workflows, enhancing our platform's proactive defense capabilities.
• Active Defense Mechanisms: Collaborate on productizing runtime guardrails, transforming them into customer-facing protective controls and advanced monitoring systems, ensuring the highest level of security for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the engineering backend essential for our AI-driven security features, ensuring high performance and reliability.
• Build and maintain the critical internal mechanisms required for the safe, efficient, and scalable deployment of AI features across our platforms.
• Work closely with AI Researchers to effectively translate their innovative findings and theoretical concepts into practical, production-grade autonomous workflows.
• Implement robust runtime guardrails and advanced AI-focused data security capabilities, protecting sensitive information and systems.

Requirements

• Demonstrated mid-senior level experience or equivalent military experience in relevant technical fields, showcasing a strong foundation in engineering.
• A robust engineering background with a specialized focus on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence technologies.
• Proven experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), agentic frameworks, or internal ML platforms is highly valued and considered a significant advantage.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and practical product engineering, delivering tangible results.
