About the Role - Friend Volunteer
UPWARD is recruiting two new Friends for an unpaid, informal volunteer position. The role is remote with hybrid options in the Helsinki Metro Area and is compensated exclusively in conversation, encouragement, and good energy.
Responsibilities

- Occasionally joining or facilitating group discussions
Qualifications
You will thrive if you apply empathy, curiosity, and kindness, have strong English communication skills, value depth and reflection, and possess at least 18 years of life experience. Being a decent human is essential.
Bonus points if you are humor-tolerant, irony-aware, and enjoy words and questions.
About UPWARD
UPWARD helps people and organizations cultivate empathy, inclusion, and connection. This role involves collaborating closely with Laura Smith, a consultant, researcher, and seasoned friend, to co-create positive moments and improve experiential outcomes. You will join a globally distributed team of co-Friends committed to building community beyond borders.
The Application Process
- Step 1: Screening: 8-12 minute survey (Nov 3–23)
- Step 2: Written Assignment: Prompts & responses on Substack (Nov 3–23)
- Step 3: Group Interview: One-hour video call via Google Meet (Nov 12, 21, 26)
- Step 4: 1:1 Conversation: 45-minute chat with Laura (Dec 3–10)
Feedback and notifications will be shared on Dec 17–19.
