About the Position

The Executive Director role is pivotal in developing Upturn as an institution while leading a strong and effective organization. You will guide the long-term vision, ensure financial and legal stability, build internal institutions, and manage relationships with the Board of Directors.

About the Team & Culture

You will join a caring, collaborative, and principled team of 12 full-time staff members. Upturn values inclusivity, transparency, and collective decision-making through staff retreats, strategic planning sessions, and open dialogues.

Work Location & Compensation

This is a fully remote role with a small in-person office in Washington, DC. The salary is set at 195,000 (non-negotiable) with a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, a 403(b) retirement plan, paid time off, transit benefits for DC-based employees, and additional perks.

About You

The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of senior leadership experience, proven expertise in mission advancement, fundraising, organizational management, legal compliance, and diversity-building. A strong track record in advancing equity, justice, and civil rights is essential.
