About The Project Office
Since 1995, UNOPS has maintained an active presence in Afghanistan, supporting humanitarian response and development efforts across sectors including infrastructure, procurement, capacity building, and environmental protection. The focus has shifted to supporting life-saving initiatives and basic human needs.
Role Purpose
The Partnerships Development Advisor will provide expert advice and support to UNOPS Afghanistan in developing projects that support the Afghan private sector. The advisor will work remotely under the supervision of the Head of Programmes in coordination with the Partnerships Development Unit.
Functions / Key Results Expected
- Project Development Support: Advise on comprehensive project documents and represent UNOPS in stakeholder meetings.
- Value Chain Resilience: Provide guidance on linking businesses in manufacturing and agribusiness sectors and support value chain upgrades.
- Incubation Services: Evaluate business support initiatives, advise on accelerator programs, and de-risk investments.
- Private Sector Advisory: Engage with stakeholders to inform project activities and gather insights on the private sector ecosystem.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Coordination: Facilitate communication among UNOPS Afghanistan, donors, and other stakeholders through consultations.
Education Requirements
Required: Master's degree in Economics, Business Administration, Finance or related field with 7+ years of experience; OR Bachelor's degree in related fields with 9+ years of experience.
Desired: Relevant certifications in private sector development or investment promotion.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of experience in private sector development, investment promotion, or economic policy in developing countries.
- At least 3 years in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing private sector initiatives.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and partnership building with senior representatives.
- Analytical skills to review socio-economic issues and develop innovative solutions.
- Experience in value chain analysis, particularly in manufacturing and agribusiness sectors.
Desired Experience
Experience with International Financial Institutions (IFIs), capacity building, public-private partnerships, and knowledge of financing instruments related to private sector development. Knowledge of Afghanistan's economic, political, and social context is an asset.
