About the Analytics Specialist Role at University of Sydney

We are seeking an Analytics Specialist to join the Advanced Analytics, Planning & Enterprise Data team. This full-time, continuing role is central to advancing the University's AI capabilities and delivering high-value analytics. You will leverage your Python expertise in a diverse, agile, and engaging environment to shape data and AI solutions, improving the staff and student experience.

You will play a pivotal role in designing intelligent solutions, developing AI agents, and unlocking critical insights. Collaborating with a vibrant community of analytics and AI experts, you will build high-impact, Python-based products using machine learning and modern analytical techniques to guide strategic decision-making across the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand challenges and deliver targeted analytics and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Apply best-practice techniques using Python, SQL, and modern data platforms to analyse, model, and process data.
  • Develop robust data models for reporting, advanced analytics, and AI/ML solutions, ensuring accuracy, scalability, and alignment with stakeholder needs.
  • Develop and implement sustainable analytics products, including AI agents and machine-learning-driven tools that enhance automation and insight generation.
  • Present insights using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and Excel for diverse audiences.
  • Provide data-driven recommendations that support strategic teaching, research, and operational decisions.
  • Contribute to data quality initiatives, continuous improvement, and operational excellence across analytics workflows.

About You

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Advanced Python coding skills, including experience building analytical models, automation workflows, and production-ready solutions.
  • Hands-on experience developing AI agents or applied AI/ML solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Experience with analytics tools, databases, and data visualisation platforms.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach, comfort working in agile environments, and a commitment to innovation and continual learning.
  • Desirable: Web development experience (full-stack or front-end) to support the delivery of analytics-driven applications.
