Overview
The University of Iowa's UI Heart and Vascular Center seeks a Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Coordinator. This role is focused on managing care for patients with VADs, ensuring seamless coordination across multidisciplinary teams, and providing education and support to patients, families, and caregivers.
Position Responsibilities
- Coordinate preoperative evaluation and postoperative management of VAD patients.
- Serve as the primary contact for patients and families, providing education and support.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans with the healthcare team.
- Monitor patient progress and respond to clinical changes.
- Facilitate multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
- Provide training and create educational materials on VAD management.
- Assist in developing program protocols and policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and data analysis.
- Maintain accurate patient records and comply with regulatory standards.
- Advocate for patient needs and connect them with community resources.
Qualifications
Education: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required.
Experience: Minimum 6 months of direct nursing care or management in cardiovascular settings or 1 year in outpatient care coordination. Experience in cardiac care, critical care, or VAD management is required. Familiarity with electronic health records is essential.
Certifications: Current BLS certification and valid Iowa nursing license required by start date.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior coordinator role in a VAD or heart failure program.
- Experience managing cardiovascular patients in outpatient settings.
- Proven organization, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Job-related professional certification and EPIC experience.
Additional Information
No nights, weekends, or holidays are required. Scheduled hours run from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with intermittent on-call duties after 6 months. Applicants must upload a resume and cover letter, and be prepared for background and credential checks.
