About the Position

The University of Galway invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term Research Assistant – GALENBAND position in the Discipline of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. This role is within Dr. Soumyajyoti Maji's research group and is funded by Disruptive Technologies Innovation Funding (DTIF).

Project Overview

The project addresses atrial fibrillation (AF), a prevalent heart rhythm disorder that affects over 43 million people globally. Emphasis is placed on developing a non-invasive, wearable cardiac telemetry system capable of recording heart data for 90 days on a single charge. This innovative device, worn on the upper left arm, aims to detect silent AF and reduce stroke risk by transmitting data for rapid clinical intervention.

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Participate in engineering and research activities for device development.
  • Assist in data collection and analysis related to AF detection.
  • Collaborate with Galenband Ltd. and PA Consulting Ltd. on project milestones.
  • Contribute to research publications and project documentation.
