The Inclusive Economy Lab at the University of Chicago focuses on ending intergenerational poverty and building an inclusive economy by providing real economic opportunities for all communities. The Lab collaborates with policymakers, organizations, and communities to co-generate evidence and translate it into policy changes.
Job Summary
The Assistant Research Director role is a full-time position responsible for providing scientific and intellectual leadership for the Lab's projects. This role involves serving as a Principal Investigator or co-Principal Investigator and lead analyst on 3-4 research projects, ensuring research rigor and quality.
Responsibilities
- Direct 3-4 applied research projects on key economic issues such as homelessness, housing, college access, workforce development, and financial stability.
- Manage and mentor research staff while spearheading statistical analysis and report writing.
- Collaborate with practitioners and policy makers, execute strategic vision, design standard procedures and tools, and develop scientific content for proposals.
- Oversee quality control, design study tables and statistical procedures, and contribute actively to research dissemination.
Qualifications
Minimum qualification requires a college or university degree and 5-7 years of relevant work experience. A Master’s degree in economics, sociology, public policy, or a related field is preferred.
Preferred Competencies
Engage thoughtfully with issues related to race, identity, and equity. Experience working with communities affected by segregation and disinvestment is valued. First-generation college students and those with lived experience in communities facing poverty are encouraged to apply.

Additional Information
This position is full-time with scheduled weekly hours of 37.5. It includes benefits, and the pay range is estimated between $93,500.00 and $121,000.00 annually. The position requires no drug test, health screen, or motor vehicle record inquiry. It is an exempt role under FLSA with responsibilities spanning research leadership, statistical design, and community engagement.
