Departmental Overview

The Student Learning Center (SLC) is the primary hub for undergraduate academic support, serving more than 12,000 students annually. Founded in 1973, the SLC has evolved into a culturally diverse organization that fosters academic excellence and a sense of belonging through tutoring, study groups, academic coaching, workshops, and various cultural and wellness initiatives.

Position Summary

This role supports the daily operations of the Summer Bridge Program including academic outreach, course enrollment, peer staff training and supervision, event planning, and program maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Support incoming participants in transitioning and navigating first semester challenges.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts through recruitment events and informational sessions.
  • Train and supervise a peer staff of 8-10 members, mentoring their professional development.
  • Assist with course placement and enrollment for up to 400 students.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with various academic departments.
  • Participate on center-wide committees for overall administrative support.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have knowledge of diverse learning styles, transitional issues at research universities, and academic support practices. Strong interpersonal, communication, and computer skills (including database and web-based systems) are required. A bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training is expected.

Preferred Qualifications

A master's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training is preferred.

Salary & Benefits

This is a full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt, biweekly-paid career position. Salary is determined based on candidate qualifications and final offer, with a budgeted hourly range of $33.52 - $38.31. Comprehensive benefits are available as outlined on the University of California's Compensation & Benefits website.

Additional Information

This position requires a background check and fingerprinting. It is a designated position subject to misconduct disclosure requirements and is governed by the Student Services Advising Professionals agreement represented by the UAW. Please note, this is not a visa opportunity.
