About the Position
The University of Calgary's Department of Microbiology Immunology & Infectious Diseases in the Cumming School of Medicine is seeking a Lab Technician - Microbiology Immunology & Infectious Diseases for a full-time fixed term position (approximately 12 months with possible extension). The role involves applying imaging techniques to study the lymphatic system during infection, inflammation, and cancer using both fixed samples and intravital imaging methods. This position reports directly to the Principal Investigator.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate, organized, and reproducible data acquisition.
- Support funded research proposals and assist in developing animal care protocols.
- Design and document standard operating procedures and data collection methods.
- Collaborate with principal investigators, technical staff, and trainees.
- Conduct experiments independently and mentor junior trainees.
- Maintain a detailed daily laboratory notebook.
- Prepare summaries, tables, and graphics for reports and presentations.
- Assist with statistical analyses and grant application materials.
- Present research findings at internal seminars and scientific meetings.
Qualifications & Requirements
A minimum Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, microbiology immunology, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. The ideal candidate will have experience in molecular biology and immunohistochemistry, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and internet-based applications, strong organizational and project coordination skills, animal husbandry exposure, and proficiency in fixed-sample and/or intravital microscopy along with technical knowledge of fluorescent dye and protein labeling systems.
