Job Overview
The University of Calgary School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape (SAPL) invites applications for three tenure-track positions in Architecture at the rank of Assistant Professor. The primary focus is on Design Studio with a secondary focus in areas such as Urbanism, Indigenous Design, Generative Design, Building Science, Emerging Materials, Critical Practice and more.
Teaching and Program Details
Successful candidates will teach in both the M. Arch and Undergraduate Bachelor of Design in City Innovation (BDCI) programs. The M. Arch program prepares students for architecture careers with an accredited, intensive curriculum. The BDCI emphasizes hands-on, studio-based learning to address urban challenges.
Research, Practice and Community Engagement
Candidates are expected to maintain an active agenda of practice or development in their area of focus, supervise student research, participate in academic service, and engage in community outreach via SAPL partnerships. The curriculum integrates computational design methods supported by technologies like 3D printing and robotic fabrication.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Architecture
- Demonstrated excellence in design studio teaching
- Expertise in at least one secondary focus area
- Working knowledge of contemporary and emerging design tools
- Professional experience and design leadership
Software and Tools
Core platforms: Rhino3d, Grasshopper with plug-ins, Blender, Adobe CS suite. Other often used tools include Revit, Rhino inside Revit, Unreal Engine/Unity, Maya, Houdini, and Cinema 4D.
