The Informatics Institute is dedicated to curiosity-driven and use-inspired fundamental research, training talent in diverse informatics areas. You will be part of the Parallel Computing Systems (PCS) group, which focuses on the design, programming, and run-time management of parallel and distributed computer systems. Key aspects include modeling, analysis, and optimization of extra-functional properties like performance, power, thermals, reliability, and security.
Your Role as a PhD in Simulated Security Analysis
Are you passionate about computer system tools and their novel application in computer security? This PhD position at the University of Amsterdam offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to making modern electronic devices more secure pre-silicon fabrication. You will leverage extra-functional multi-/many-core simulators under active development within the university.
What You Will Do
- Conduct high-quality research in Computer Systems and Computer Security, leading to academic publications in peer-reviewed international conferences and/or journals.
- Contribute as a Teaching Assistant in Bachelor and Master courses (in English).
- Meet regularly with your academic supervisor to discuss and analyze the technical details of your ongoing research.
- Perform research-oriented internships in the industry.
What We Ask Of You
- Completed or soon-to-be completed MSc in Computer Science (Informatics).
- Mandatory background in Computer Systems, preferably also Computer Security.
- Experience with Multi-/Many-Core simulators like HotSniper, CoMeT, etc.
- Fluency in oral and written English, with good presentation skills.
- Interest in collaborating with a highly international and open team.
What We Offer You
This is a temporary contract for 38 hours per week, for a duration of 4 years (initial 18-month contract, extended after satisfactory evaluation). The preferred starting date is as soon as possible, leading to a PhD dissertation. We provide an educational plan including course attendance and international meetings. You will also assist in teaching undergraduates and master students. The gross monthly salary ranges between €3,059 to €3,881 (scale P), excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end allowance. A favorable '30% ruling' tax agreement may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Universities of the Netherlands is applicable.
