Department Description
The Universal Music Group Royalty and Copyright Product Team operates with a global footprint, focusing on designing, developing, delivering, and maintaining technical solutions. Our primary goal is to accurately and timely calculate royalty accountings for our valued artists, while also providing them with extensive and detailed visibility into their earnings from various digital income sources. Our team actively collaborates with international business teams to deliver innovative solutions, support best practices, and implement new processes for an optimized royalty flow.
The Role of Product Owner
As a Product Owner at Universal Music Group, you will serve as a crucial liaison between our business and development teams. Your role is to drive software products to success by identifying strategic needs and tactical goals. Managing the expectations of diverse stakeholders across multiple business teams is essential, with a constant focus on solution delivery. You will translate these expectations and domain knowledge into clear solutions for both business and development teams, particularly within a big data environment. This position is vital for fostering collaborative and successful products, and you will become the subject matter expert for specific Royalty & Copyright applications.
Key Responsibilities
Be Technical
- Formulate solutions and deliver them to the development team through user stories, process flows, and wireframes to facilitate development with minimal analysis support.
- Orchestrate development by creating tickets, estimating tasks, managing sprints, and acting as a scrum master.
- Define User Acceptance Test (UAT) plans.
- Play the role of Product Owner within an Agile Methodology.
- Create business models, incorporating process and data modeling.
Be Knowledgeable
- Develop a deep understanding of the business domain.
- Acquire subject matter expertise and provide thought leadership in our products and processes to drive service excellence.
- Document and agree on requirements with end-users.
Be Commercial
- Be a passionate advocate for the product vision.
- Manage the prioritization of the product backlog to ensure continuous alignment with business value.
Be Collaborative
- Build positive relationships with business stakeholders and development teams.
- Facilitate regular meetings with stakeholders to gather requirements, update on progress, and address concerns.
- Communicate project status to stakeholders and team members throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to effective presentations and workshops.
Skills and Experience Required
Must have
- Proven track record working as a Business Analyst / Product Owner.
- Demonstrable experience in analyzing and documenting complex business processes / process mapping and stakeholder management.
- Ability to formulate problem solutions, utilizing wire-framing and other techniques.
- Ability to work effectively with development teams (local & offshore) and ensure on-time delivery.
- A proven track record in Software Development.
- End-to-end experience across the product and software lifecycles.
- Proven experience interacting directly with end-users.
- Results-orientated with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of Agile project methodology.
- Ability to break down solutions into sprints within an Agile project methodology.
- Experienced in defining Epics and User Stories.
- Strong understanding of key technologies and their limitations.
- Ability to command respect with Senior Business Managers.
- Business-focused, self-starter with strong initiative & leadership.
Nice to have
- Project management experience.
- Music industry business knowledge is highly desirable.

You will have a strong track record across the full lifecycle of projects, demonstrating the ability to communicate with business stakeholders, understand business pain points, translate requirements into solutions, and transfer knowledge to an Agile project team for multiple IT products.
