Financial Clearance Representative Associate

Opportunities at Optum, in strategic partnership with Allina Health. As an Optum employee, you will provide support to the Allina Health account. Your work will directly improve health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, data and resources they need.

This role involves completing the financial clearance process and creating the first impression of Optum services for patients, families, and external customers. You will work along with medical staff, nursing, ancillary departments, insurance payers, and other external sources, assisting families in accessing healthcare and financial services. Flexibility to telecommute from anywhere within the U.S. is available.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform financial clearance processes by interviewing patients and recording necessary information.
  • Educate patients regarding policies including Patient Rights and HIPAA.
  • Verify insurance eligibility using automated systems and document in Epic.
  • Confirm insurance coverage details and patient financial responsibilities.
  • Provide proactive price estimates and assist with financial assistance where needed.
  • Review patient visit information to determine authorization needs.
  • Mentor less experienced team members on revenue cycle and payer issues.
  • Meet departmental productivity and quality expectations.

Qualifications

Required: 6+ months in insurance/benefit verification and pre-registration or authorization activities, intermediate Microsoft Office skills, ability to work standard CST daytime hours, and minimum age of 18.

Preferred: Associate or Vocational degree in a related field, experience with clinical staff and documentation, outpatient/inpatient experience, and working with clinical medical records.
