About the Role
Optum, a global organization under UnitedHealth Group, leverages technology to improve health outcomes. As the Associate Data Engineering Manager, you will design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines using Azure Databricks to support business intelligence and analytics initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable data pipelines using Azure Databricks.
- Develop PySpark-based data transformations integrating diverse data sources.
- Optimize Databricks clusters for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
- Manage orchestration and scheduling using tools like Apache Airflow, ADF scheduling, and Logic Apps.
- Collaborate with Architecture teams and product owners for solution design and validation.
- Implement best practices for data quality, monitoring, logging, and alerting.
- Document troubleshooting processes and deliver cost-optimized cloud solutions.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data engineers.
- Stay updated with the latest Azure and Databricks advancements.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years in IT and 6+ years in data engineering with 3+ years using Azure Databricks.
- Hands-on experience with Delta Lake, Lakehouse architecture, and data versioning.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, Git) for data solutions.
- Expertise in performance tuning, partitioning, caching, and cost optimization.
- Solid understanding of data warehousing, modeling (Kimball/Inmon), and big data processing.
- Expertise with the Azure ecosystem including Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, ADLS, and Azure Functions.
- Proficiency in PySpark, Python, and SQL.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Azure certifications (DP-203, AZ-304, etc.).
- Experience with infrastructure as code and Terraform scripts.
