Sales Associate, Fluid Solutions Program Overview

As a Sales Associate on our Fluid Solutions team, you will join a structured training program designed to prepare you for an Outside Sales Representative role. You'll gain hands-on experience with technical products and develop crucial relationship-building skills, mentored by industry experts.

What You'll Do

  • Begin training at a local branch, shadowing sales and operational roles to understand the full equipment-rental lifecycle.
  • Participate in a digital onboarding class with peers across North America to sharpen sales techniques and build an internal support network.
  • Progress through outbound sales campaigns, gaining exposure to diverse construction verticals, customer spend levels, and equipment types.
  • Master key United Rentals sales tools, including CRM, inventory management platforms, customer portal, and mobile applications.
  • Lead high-level sales conversations, covering price negotiations, multi-piece rental requests, government agreements, service contracts, and used equipment sales.
  • Learn proven sales methodologies to deliver customer solutions and drive revenue growth.
  • Engage in local team initiatives such as safety huddles, customer appreciation events, and internal team-building workshops.
  • Track Sales Development progress through achievement levels, with real-time performance metrics and weekly peer-ranked competitions.
  • Receive daily feedback from corporate and local leadership, including call coaching and jobsite ride-alongs, developing sales strategies for accounts.
  • The average Sales Associate transitions to an Outside Sales Representative within 4-6 months, depending on market conditions and individual performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in a customer-facing sales role preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient computer and mobile phone/tablet skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must live within reasonable driving distance of an assigned branch and report on-site Monday-Friday.
