Job Description

The Design Engineering Manager works closely with the Framework Director to coordinate and support design partners in FEED, Optioneering Studies, Conceptual Design and Detailed Designs under long-term National Gas and Cadent Frameworks. The role ensures designs meet United Living’s requirements and regulations, facilitating timely site starts aligned with project programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and Manage Design Teams: Oversee external design teams, provide guidance, and manage performance.
  • Manage the Design Process: Ensure efficient, effective, and budget-aligned design execution.
  • Compliance & Assurance: Ensure designs meet current standards and client specifications.
  • Cost and Budget Management: Develop and manage project engineering budgets, implement change control.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with external design houses, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Project Delivery: Coordinate design reviews, team inputs, and delivery milestones.
  • Problem Solving: Identify and resolve design-related issues and manage RFIs/TQs.

Qualifications

  • Strong civil and mechanical background with a focus on the onshore UK Gas sector.
  • Experience with National Gas and/or Cadent or similar networks.
  • Pro-active management style with excellent prioritization, motivation and communication skills.
  • Ability to review construction drawings and identify buildability issues.
  • Experience in project and process management; decision making and risk assessment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid driving licence and knowledge of construction project sequencing and design methodology.
