Dental Assistant Float
The United Cerebral Palsy Association of the North Country is seeking a Dental Assistant Float. The position reports to the Practice Manager / Dental Director and operates on a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Shifts vary between 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM with no nights, weekends, or major holidays. The work schedule is split between the Canton and Ogdensburg offices.
Position Summary
The Dental Assistant performs duties assigned by the Clinic Dentist or Hygienist, in line with legal guidelines set by the American Dental Association and New York State Education Department. This role includes assisting with patient care, recordkeeping, and preparing and cleaning dental tools.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist with clinical procedures including instrument passing and tissue retraction.
- Mix and formulate dental materials such as cement, impressions, and restoration materials.
- Sterilize instruments, maintain equipment, and implement infection control policies.
- Operate dental equipment (evacuator, autoclave, triturator, oxygen).
- Assist in patient management and wheelchair transfers.
- Schedule dental patient appointments and manage recall appointments.
- Maintain complete and accurate records including consent forms and dental lab case progress.
- Monitor dental patients under oral sedation and clarify dentist’s findings.
- Communicate with dental repair services on equipment issues.
- Participate in education programs and group conferences.
- Maintain records such as Radiation Exposure Reports and Autoclave testing reports.
- Prepare order forms for supplies and submit them for approval.
- Follow all infection control policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- One year of approved chair-side experience preferred.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations.
- Professionalism and confidentiality are essential.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transfer 50 lbs occasionally.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination; ability to sit/stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable with exposure to infectious diseases and hospital environments.
- Ability to read digital readouts and operate necessary dental equipment.
- Must wear appropriate hospital attire including masks, gowns, gloves, and closed-toed shoes.
