About the Role

United's Digital Technology team is seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join their innovative group. You will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-standard databases, driving critical database strategies, and ensuring the smooth operation of our Database Management Systems (DBMS). This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to building the best airline in aviation history.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the design, implementation, and support of enterprise standard databases.
  • Drive the identification and implementation of database backup, recovery, and security strategies.
  • Install and support DBMS software and tools.
  • Perform database activities including monitoring, tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting, and consulting.
  • Translate logical data models into physical designs that comply with enterprise standards.
  • Create physical database structures for development, test, and production environments.
  • Configure servers for DBMS installation and database creation in coordination with systems engineers.
  • Act as a consultant to application development teams on DBMS technical issues.
  • Communicate required downtime to application development teams and systems engineers for approved changes.
  • Install, configure, and maintain DBMS product software on database and application servers.
  • Implement monitoring procedures to maximize availability and performance, meeting defined SLAs.
  • Design, implement, and support enterprise standard databases with appropriate supervision.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve database problems.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years of applicable experience in the design and administration support of one or more DBMS Platforms.
  • Experience in AWS, specifically with DocumentDB and Neptune.
  • Experience with SQL Server, specifically with MySQL and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience migrating databases from On-Prem to cloud and consolidating databases.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of successful formal and informal communication.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and act as a positive team member.
  • Technical expert committed to continuous learning and staying updated on industry practices.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Successful completion of an interview.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this role is $112,480.00 to $146,540.00, dependent on factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards. Competitive benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, parental leave, employee assistance program, commuter benefits, paid holidays, paid time off, 401(k), and flight privileges.
