UNICEF’s Digital Inclusion (DI) programme supports governments and partners to improve equitable, affordable digital access for children, schools, and communities. The programme engages with regulators, operators, and public institutions to explore innovative approaches to connectivity, infrastructure governance, and digital public goods.
How you can make a difference?
We are seeking a Junior Data Analyst, Digital Inclusion consultant to assist in various data analysis priorities of the Giga initiative, a joint partnership between UNICEF and ITU. The analyst will collaborate with the Data & Mapping product team, Country engagement team, as well as external partners to develop innovative products and data solutions for the Giga Initiative.
Scope of Work
- Work closely with the data and product teams to support data analysis on new product features and assess their impact.
- Develop and maintain templates for school and health data quality assessment of dashboards and related documentation.
- Support the creation of analytical reports and visual summaries to help country teams monitor project engagement, adoption, and progress.
- Contribute to data quality reviews, identifying gaps and inconsistencies across country datasets.
- Enrich datasets with metadata and data documentation to improve discoverability and usability in the organization’s data catalog.
- Assist in data cleaning, standardization, and integration across multiple country-level data sources.
- Collaborate with the team to streamline data workflows and automate routine analyses.
Deliverables
The consultant will be responsible for the following deliverables:
- Product Analytics Reports (30 April 2026): Conduct product data analysis to assess the impact of key features and prepare visual summaries for the product team.
- Country Insights Dashboards (31 May 2026): Design and generate country-specific product insights dashboards, validating data accuracy and automating updates.
- School Data Quality Dashboard & Documentation (30 June 2026): Develop a school master data quality assessment dashboard and finalize supporting documentation.
- Health Data Quality Dashboard & Documentation (31 July 2026): Build a health master data quality dashboard, documenting the framework, definitions, and data validation approach.
- Metadata & Documentation Enrichment (31 August 2026): Enrich datasets with standardized metadata and documentation for data catalog integration, coordinating review with data and product teams.
- Metadata for Core Datasets (30 September 2026): Create metadata for school and health master, connectivity, demographic, and infrastructure datasets, validating and finalizing entries for the data catalog.
Location/Duty Station
The assignment is fully remote without travels.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data, Statistics, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- Work Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in engineering, data science, or analysis.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of time-series analysis, geospatial data processing, data modeling, visualizations, and engineering for networks. Strong research and analytical skills and proven experience in developing practical, viable solutions. Experience with product analytics.
- Technical Experience: Languages: Python, Jupyter Notebooks, R; Cloud services: Azure, AWS, etc.; Geospatial DBs, libraries, and data structures; Data visualization libraries; SQL and NoSQL database systems.
- Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
