Overview
The Data Protection Consultancy at UNICEF requires an expert to lead the implementation of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and support data protection and privacy within the Chief Data Office. This consultancy role focuses on high-risk digital processing activities ensuring compliance with UNICEF's Policy on Personal Data Protection and safeguarding personal data.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify high-risk processing activities based on GCRI data.
- Consult with relevant stakeholders to conduct DPIAs.
- Create data flow maps and document risk assessments.
- Propose and implement mitigation measures for identified risks.
- Draft and update comprehensive DPIA reports and frameworks.
Terms of Reference / Deliverables
Deliverables include reviewing processing activities, conducting consultations, preparing DPIA reports, and proposing risk mitigation measures. Work is spread over distinct tasks with set deadlines from March to December 2026.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include an advanced university degree in Data Protection, Privacy Law, Data Science or a related field, with at least 4 years of relevant experience. Strong expertise in GDPR, privacy enhancing technology, and experience in guiding DPIAs is essential.

This consultancy is remote but based out of New York, United States. Applicants must have valid visa/health insurance as required and undergo background checks.
