About UN Women and the Role

Afghanistan faces a complex humanitarian crisis where women and girls are particularly vulnerable. This consultant, reporting to the WCSO Programme Manager, will provide crucial operational and financial support to UN Women's programs in Afghanistan. This is a re-opening of a previously advertised position; prior applicants need not reapply.
Key Responsibilities
The Programme Support Consultant will be responsible for coordinating operational support for the WCSO Programme, including:
- Overseeing the annual budget, tracking expenditures, and reconciling budget lines.
- Managing project/award creation and budget setup within UN Women's systems (Quantum and RMS).
- Generating and revising reports in Quantum with support from ACO Finance.
- Providing financial controls and administrative assistance for funding initiatives and problem-solving.
- Maintaining and updating financial trackers, providing monthly snapshots, and developing financial status reports.
- Assisting with internal and external audits.
- Supporting the financial management of WCSO partners, including processing installments and monitoring expenditures.
- Participating in the financial verification of partner reports and assisting with grant closing.
- Reviewing and verifying grantee utilization plans and supporting financial documents.
- Providing mentorship and training to the WCSO Programme Unit on financial management and operational support.
- Offering any other support as requested by the supervisor.
Consultant's Workplace and Travel
This is a home-based consultancy starting from February 1st to July 31st, 2026, providing remote support. Travel to UN Women Afghanistan or other locations may be required for official trainings or missions, with arrangements managed by the UN Women Afghanistan Country Office.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Master's degree or equivalent in Business Administration or a related field. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience is acceptable.
- Experience: At least 2 years of work experience in operations. Proficiency in computer and office software (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required. Experience with web-based management systems or ERP systems like Quantum is required. Experience within the UN system is desirable.
- Languages: Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
