Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), established in 1997, leads global efforts to promote peace, security, justice, and development by supporting Member States in countering drugs, crime, corruption, and terrorism. With headquarters in Vienna and a network of over 115 field offices, UNODC works closely with governments and civil society to build resilient societies grounded in the rule of law. The Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA), based in Cairo, oversees programming across 18 countries under the Regional Framework for the Arab States (2023–2028), which provides a roadmap to strengthen justice, reduce violence, and advance the Sustainable Development Goals. This UN Volunteer assignment supports the Regional Programme for Drug Control and Forensics, aimed at fostering balanced, evidence‑based, and human‑rights–compliant approaches to drug response, prevention, treatment, and regional cooperation. Working under the Regional Programme Coordinator, the UN Volunteer will help ensure effective coordination, communication, and operational delivery across ROMENA offices.
Description of Duties for a Programme Support Officer, Drug Control & Forensics
- Provide executive and administrative support, including managing agendas, correspondence, travel, and meetings.
- Draft and edit reports, communications, minutes, and presentations in English and Arabic.
- Maintain organized archives of programme documents and visibility materials.
- Support programme planning, monitoring, budgeting, and compliance with reporting requirements.
- Assist with preparation and coordination of proposals, agreements, progress reports, and activity documentation.
- Facilitate internal coordination across ROMENA sections and field offices.
- Liaise with partners and support organization of technical meetings, workshops, and missions.
- Support monitoring, analytical briefs, background notes, and data visualization of programme results.
- Provide logistical and operational support, including ERP requisitioning and financial workflows.
- Promote volunteerism and perform other related duties.
Profile Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in international relations, public administration, law, criminology, political science, business administration, or related fields.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in programme or project coordination, administration, or technical assistance.
- Strong skills in documentation, reporting, and communication in English and Arabic; French is an asset.
- Experience with international organizations, discretion handling sensitive information, and strong analytical abilities.
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and virtual collaboration tools; familiarity with database and ERP systems is an advantage.
