Technical Product Manager - Artificial Intelligence at UL Solutions

This role is Hybrid 3 days a week on-site, at either our Northbrook or Chicago, IL Office.

As we accelerate our growth, we are seeking a Technical Product Manager - Artificial Intelligence to join our AI Lab team. This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to apply AI in meaningful ways, driving solutions that transform how our internal teams work, make decisions, and deliver impact. In this role, you will explore high-value opportunities across the enterprise, shape AI-driven business processes, and build foundational capabilities that power the next generation of UL software and services. You will collaborate with innovators across the organization to help our people work smarter, move faster, and unlock new possibilities through applied AI.

Role Overview

• Communicate the AI Lab product vision, strategy and goals internally across the organization, as well as externally with client users ensuring that it meets the needs of our software products whilst balancing the longer-term business strategy.
• Evangelize the benefits of a capability and platform approach across the business ensuring that our teams understand how shared foundational capabilities can accelerate product delivery.
• Ensure that we reuse where it makes sense to do so by evaluating proposed capability against current capabilities and planned future capabilities, favoring re-use of features and services.
• Build strong relationships with the Product Management, Development, Implementation and Business teams for an efficient cross-functional matrix structure to enable effective product development lifecycle.
• Support and contribute to a go-to-market strategy, describing how value will be delivered to the customer/user, how the product is differentiated from the competition, and what the business model should be.
• Define and build the business case justification for development resources.
• Maintain and own the product backlog for AI Lab, ensuring business value drives the prioritization, and that the outcomes and measurement for success are clear.
• Prioritize product functions and features into a product roadmap.
• Advise the Development team on potential upcoming roadmap items which could impact their decision making on existing customer commitments and enhancement requests.

Responsibilities

• Communicate mission and strategy down to the development teams, and outwards to other teams.
• Develop and maintain a mechanism to perform a quick review of new opportunities / requirements, discuss and agree with a Product Review Board whether to investigate further for a full business case.
• Own, define, and execute a robust set of processes to power all parts of the product development lifecycle from research/discovery to release management and product support.
• Work with Product Manager Leads, Product Owners and Product Architects to discuss possible solutions, validate the approach and agree rough development estimates to determine overall ROI.
• Combine the technical and business input, including feedback from all stakeholders, to build business cases and justification for large, new product or capability development. Include supporting material to evaluate options for strategic decision making and priorities.
• Work with the development team to gain data on initiatives, upcoming large client requests which need longer term planning, estimates and technical approach on new products.
• Feedback to Product Delivery on potential upcoming roadmap items which could impact their decision making.
• Manage stakeholder expectations against AI Lab initiative delivery.
• Monitor ROI against key initiatives and AI projects.

Qualifications

• Highly experienced in software development, ideally with experience of complex digital transformation.
• Solid understanding of AI capabilities, products, and potential applications to business problems.
• Outstanding leader with strong ability to lead through influence.
• Brilliant communication skills with ability to communicate across all levels comfortably.
• Facilitation skills – ability to lead small to medium groups of internal and external stakeholders towards desired outcomes in order to meet business objectives.
• Interview skills – ability to conduct discovery sessions with clients, prospects and stakeholders in order to diagnose business opportunities, elicit requirements and conduct other types of research.
• University Degree (Equivalent to Bachelor's degree) in Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline.
• 5 years or more of related discipline experience or demonstrated competency.
• Formal training and/or certification in Product Management is a plus.

Total Rewards

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $130,000 to $160,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 20% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
