Overview of the Role
The UK Home Office is seeking a Technology Delivery Manager to join the Customer Services & Asylum Technology Delivery Centre within the Migration and Borders Technology Portfolio (MBTP). This team is crucial for delivering digital solutions that support vital services like asylum, protection, visas, information, and passports.
As a Technology Delivery Manager, you will lead a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering high-impact digital products and services. This involves building strong relationships with stakeholders and suppliers, efficiently removing blockers, and using data-driven insights to continually improve outcomes. You will also contribute to the broader Home Office delivery community by sharing best practices across government, ultimately helping to deliver services that enhance the UK's security and prosperity.
MBTP is an integral part of Home Office Digital, comprising approximately 3,500 civil servants and contractors. The portfolio's mission is to design innovative solutions, drive digital transformation, and deliver services that make a tangible difference in keeping citizens safe and the country secure.
What You Will Do
- Take responsibility for your team’s delivery of technology products and services, coaching and facilitating the use of appropriate methods to explore needs, solve problems, and deliver effectively.
- Collaborate with the team to continuously monitor and improve processes and performance.
- Contribute to creating and maintaining realistic plans, ensuring delivery remains on track within defined quality, cost, and time constraints.
- Proactively remove blockers, engaging stakeholders and governance as necessary to ensure team success.
- Develop and nurture a motivated, high-functioning team, fostering collaboration and empowering delivery through clear direction and constructive feedback. Monitor team health and profile, working collaboratively to resolve any issues.
- Manage risks, issues, and dependencies effectively.
- Engage with and influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders, contributing to efforts to develop and enhance these relationships.
- Act as a routine contact point for suppliers involved in delivery, monitoring their performance and assisting in resolving any problems that arise.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated understanding of various delivery approaches, including Agile and Waterfall, with the ability to identify the most suitable methodology for a given situation and guide teams in implementing and improving processes.
- Experience in facilitating the end-to-end delivery of technology products and services throughout their lifecycle.
- Proven ability to assemble the optimal team composition for specific situations, uniting individuals into a motivated and cohesive unit.
- Proficiency in identifying and managing risks, issues, and dependencies effectively.
- Strong communication skills to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders, alongside effectively managing stakeholder expectations.
- Capability to monitor supplier performance and serve as a primary point of contact for external partners.
