Project Engineer at UGL
UGL Industrials is seeking a qualified and experienced Project Engineer for their workshop in Bennetts Green, NSW. This permanent, full-time role involves working on Power Station assets across NSW, offering a Monday-Friday work week.
You will join a highly experienced team known for strong delivery and collaborative solutions with clients. This is a residential role, strongly encouraging local applicants from the Newcastle region.
About The Role
The Project Engineer plays a crucial role in providing engineering and administrative coordination for project design, supply, installation, and testing. The core objective is to ensure projects are completed efficiently, cost-effectively, and in adherence to contractual agreements.
- Assist Workshop and Project Managers in maintaining UGL Management System documentation compliance.
- Generate and manage Inspection & Test Plans and Workshop Packages for internal approval and subsequent release.
- Review and plan projects with management to clarify technical aspects and contractual obligations.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Provide expert engineering advice to subcontractors and suppliers.
- Oversee the entire project from an engineering perspective, maintaining a flexible problem-solving approach.
- Liaise directly with clients on all engineering and design-related matters.
- Ensure timely availability of client-supplied "Free Issued" material to maintain project schedules.
- Collaborate with Superintendents and Supervisors to ensure accurate and frequent updates of schedules and forecasted positions.
- Generate and manage project schedules, cost reporting, and contract administration, providing regular updates and recommendations to management and key business partners.
- Manage project scope, promptly detailing any changes, schedule impacts, and cost impacts to optimize returns.
- Monitor work progress, identify workforce needs, and direct employees on alternative tasks in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Support the Quality Manager/Lead with Inspection and Test Plans and project-specific procedures.
- Ensure adherence to client contract requirements and UGL company procedures.
- Assist Workshop and Project Managers with procurement of goods and services, collaborating closely with Procurement business partners.
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors as directed.
- Work with Superintendents and Supervisors to identify and manage risks and hazards, preventing incidents and injuries.
- Assist in preparing monthly reports and attend client meetings.
- Complete all administrative tasks for direct or indirect reports.
- Ensure compliance with UGL record-keeping procedures and contract requirements.
- Support the compilation and handover of work packs.
- Assist with commissioning activities as needed.
- Undertake various ad hoc projects, initiatives, and tasks as directed by Contract and Project Managers.
Required Qualifications And Education Requirements
- Tertiary Engineering Qualification.
- Minimum 3 years of Project Management experience in steel fabrication (essential).
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Project or Primavera.
- Basic knowledge of welding processes (GTAW, FCAW, SAW).
- Basic knowledge of AS 4458 and AS 3992 (preferred).
- Strong Project Controls knowledge and delivery skills (Contract Administration, Forecasting, Schedule Development and Management).
- Knowledge of AS9001 Quality Systems.
- Valid Driver’s Licence.
- Demonstrated Leadership ability.
