Position Overview: AI-Powered Software Engineer Track Mentor

As an AI-Powered Software Engineer Track Mentor at Udacity, you will be an industry professional providing world-class technical support to our learners throughout their Nanodegree journey. Our mentors are handpicked through a rigorous selection process to ensure we are truly #studentfirst.

In this role, you will meet virtually on a weekly basis with your students for community support, live office hours, and other engaging activities.

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Eligibility Requirements: Mentors must have at least 7 years of industry experience or a master’s degree in the relevant field.

Technical Competence

  • Hands-on software engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Python (or similar backend language).
  • Solid experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and scalable test design.
  • Strong understanding of design patterns (creational, structural, behavioral).
  • Experience with microservices and cloud-native architectures.
  • Ability to design and review scalable system architectures.
  • Experience using AI-assisted coding tools in real development workflows.
  • Ability to evaluate AI-generated code for quality, security, and maintainability.
  • Strong code review and debugging skills.
  • Experience working on production-grade distributed systems preferred.
  • Experience teaching technical concepts and public speaking, organizing technical talks, or webinars.
  • Positive character, trusted by the students, creating emotional ties in the group.
  • Flexibility at their current job to take this challenge part-time as an external contractor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for students over an online community forum.
  • Answer questions around course content over the forum and facilitate content for students who get stuck in learning.
  • Host one weekly live virtual session to offer direct, real-time support to students.
  • Redirect learners to appropriate support channels and escalate issues to the Mentor Operations team when needed.
