Job Description

About The Role

The Rider Design team at Uber is seeking a Product Designer II - Rider Growth to create thoughtful, scalable solutions that empower people to go anywhere and get anything. This role involves working within a broad scope, covering core rider experiences, mobility verticals like Airports, Car Rentals, Shared Rides, and Reserve, and the future of Autonomous Ride-hailing. While Uber has established a best-in-class product, there are ample opportunities for improvement and exploration, where your expertise will be crucial.

As a designer on the Rider team, you will be responsible for crafting intuitive, inclusive, and delightful experiences for a global user base. Your work will encompass interaction, systems, and service design, driven by a human-centered process that harmonizes user needs, business objectives, and technical feasibility. You'll need to develop modular frameworks suitable for diverse product offerings, geographies, and users within Uber's complex multi-sided marketplace. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with engineers, product managers, researchers, data scientists, and fellow designers who are committed to quality and speed.

What You Will Do

Onboard to the Uber Design team: Learn Uber's collaborative practices, design tools, the Uber Base design system, and how to design for clarity, inclusion, accessibility, scalability, and global localization.

Onboard to your product area: Connect with cross-functional stakeholders, understand business goals and strategy, familiarize yourself with existing tech platforms, and learn your team's product development and launch review processes.

Scope: Manage projects of varying complexity, from well-defined problems to more conceptual challenges, while actively leading a roadmap within your product area.

Process: Develop a deep understanding of users through data and research, lead the entire design process, gather and integrate expert feedback, translate designs for engineers, and work flexibly across various teams. You will design at all fidelity levels, thoroughly explore problem spaces, and exercise sound judgment in making tradeoffs.

Craft: Transform ambitious ideas into simple, elegant products. Deliver effective, user-friendly features, and create innovative, scalable designs. Document design frameworks to enable others to build upon your solutions. Possess a strong grasp of business, data, and engineering requirements, creating experiences that offer substantial customer value.

Efficiency: Effectively prioritize and manage your time, operate with high autonomy, handle multiple concurrent projects, and foster effective collaboration.

Communication: Articulate your ideas with clarity and persuasiveness, and effectively present your work and rationale to all relevant stakeholders. Proactively communicate with your team and manager, facilitate design sessions, and collaborate with other designers. Build and maintain honest and trusting relationships within your team.

Influence: Drive team activities through innovative ideas, strong organization, and effective execution. Support internal initiatives to enhance the Design team and share your skills and learnings with colleagues.
