Staff Network Engineer
Uber Freight US LLC is seeking a Staff Network Engineer to join their team. This role involves designing, engineering, building, and supporting production networks across on-premises, cloud, transit, and backbone environments. You will be responsible for ensuring network availability, performance, and scalability for the entire tech platform. This includes designing and deploying automated provisioning, telemetry, and problem remediation tools. The role requires strong cross-team collaboration, working with stakeholders across Engineering and Business Organizations to implement network solutions supporting global growth. A key aspect of this position is applying intellectual curiosity to research new technologies and integrate them into production networks.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Design, engineer, build, and support production networks (on-premises, cloud, transit, backbone).
- Ensure network availability, performance, and future scalability for the tech platform.
- Design and deploy automated provisioning, telemetry, and problem remediation tools.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple Engineering and Business Organizations.
- Research new technologies and apply them to production networks.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
- Master of Science degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications Systems Management, or a related field.
- 7 years of experience in network monitoring, infrastructure, or management.
- 5 years of experience with Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interface (REST APIs) and Python.
- 3 years of experience using REST APIs on network platforms.
- 3 years of experience in network security technologies, including Network Address Translation (NAT) and Port Address Translation (PAT).
- 3 years of experience in object-oriented design.
- 3 years of experience using configuration management tools like Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
- 2 years of experience in Internet Protocol (IP).
- 2 years of experience with Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) and High Availability (HA).
- 2 years of experience with L2-L3 protocols.
- 2 years of experience in platform validation.
- 2 years of experience using Quality of Service (QoS).
- 2 years of experience in Transmission Control Protocol (TCP).
- 2 years of experience with Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF).
- 1 year of experience in Google Cloud Platform design using Terraform.
- Experience can be gained concurrently.
Work Arrangement And Travel
- Hybrid position: Work in the office 3 days per week.
- Must reside within commuting distance from the employer's Frisco, TX office.
- Various unanticipated locations throughout the U.S.
- Requires 10% domestic and international travel.
