Job Description

Intern at TurnUp Activism

Join our team of mission-driven young people from all around the United States to help amplify youth civic engagement and participate in activism on many progressive/social justice issues including climate change, racial justice, reproductive rights, and ending gun violence, and combating voter suppression in the United States.

This is an unpaid remote internship or volunteer opportunity, with flexible hours per week (5-30+) and flexible start and end dates.

About TurnUp Activism

TurnUp Activism (www.turnup.us) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to making the world more just, fair, and equitable for all by increasing youth civic engagement and activism to strengthen our democracy. We believe that everyone should be able to access their civic and activist potential. TurnUp has registered and turned out over 500,000 young voters since 2019.

Benefits of Joining

  • Eligible to receive community service hours or course credit (if you coordinate with your school).
  • Work in teams with other young people to participate in activism and learn civics.
  • Bolster your resume and earn valuable letters of recommendation.
  • Flexible hours per week, apply anytime.
  • Eligible to win awards and prizes including the President's Volunteer Service Award.
  • Broaden your networking scope and hear from world-renowned speakers.

Key Curriculum & Responsibilities

Interns will work on teams to participate in grassroots activism and advocacy on civic and social justice issues they care about, doing research to become better educated and aware about these topics. All Interns are expected to join and help with existing voter registration drives at their schools, and if there isn’t one, TurnUp Activism supports their success in initiating and performing their own registration efforts (with school permission).

Interns will collaborate on a variety of tasks, communicate regularly, and meet virtually on a weekly basis. This is a collaborative internship where interns will develop their democratic competency. Interns participate in civic actions, work on voter turnout projects, perform targeted outreach, engage in advocacy and activism, find and participate in volunteer opportunities together, attend the TurnUp Speaker Series, as well as do civic and activism related research and writing. Most importantly, they will work together to advocate for issues important to young people, fight voter suppression and boost youth voter turnout in the United States. Upon completion, interns are prepared to go forward being civically responsible and engaged activists.
