Project Engineer
Turner Construction Company is seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to join our Bay Area division. This role is crucial for managing and supervising engineering and administrative functions at the project level, ensuring seamless coordination with field operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive working knowledge of contract documents, including plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Lead, supervise, and develop Turner engineering staff, contributing to performance appraisals.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety, ethics, and compliance requirements.
- Oversee communication of information among all project team members.
- Establish and maintain procedures for information flow, approvals, meetings, reporting, and payment applications with design professionals, consultants, owners, and subcontractors.
- Collaborate with Preconstruction, Estimating, and Purchasing to develop project budgets (GMP) and lead preconstruction efforts related to Project Engineering.
- Conduct thorough construction document reviews, examining for constructability and implementing Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC).
- Participate in preparing studies, recommendations for materials/methods, and cost estimates.
- Prepare a detailed contract items list and develop trade scope of work documents for bid packages.
- Create a procurement schedule for subcontractors and major purchases to ensure timely buy-outs and schedule compliance.
- Manage the financial status of the project, including preparing accurate financial reports.
- Schedule, conduct, and document all job meetings, including owner-architect and coordination meetings.
- Manage the subcontract change order process, including review, negotiation, and preparation.
- Oversee project close-out, including securing warranties, guarantees, and final acceptance of work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience with large, complex construction projects valued at $50M+ is highly desired.
- Knowledge of accounting principles, cost control, estimating, construction costs, scheduling, purchasing, and engineering principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of Turner's Project Management and scheduling software is desirable.
- Ability to implement leading-edge technologies such as Building Information Models (BIM) and Lean construction principles.
- Demonstrated ability to thoroughly understand drawings, specifications, contracts, and materials.
- Very strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The role requires the ability to navigate active construction sites, including climbing stairs and ladders, and may involve occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. The work environment is on-site, potentially exposing the employee to moving parts, heights, fumes, weather conditions, and electrical hazards, with noise levels that can be moderate to very loud.
