The position is responsible for facilitating patient care and flow. This involves conducting preliminary patient exams, taking medical histories, and performing a range of screenings and diagnostic tests according to established procedures.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year experience in a healthcare setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or obtain within three months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Completion of an ophthalmic, optometric, or medical assistant training program
  • Experience in an ophthalmic practice and with computer scheduling systems

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Obtain patient physical history including chief complaint and medical background
  • Perform screenings such as visual acuity, lensometry, refraction, and keratometry
  • Assist with diagnostic tests and ocular imaging (e.g., OCT, Topography)
  • Prepare consent forms and assist during in-office procedures
  • Set up exam rooms ensuring cleanliness and proper stocking of supplies
  • Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of instruments
  • Facilitate clinic flow and document exam details in the electronic health record
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work in close contact with patients including children, elderly, and visually impaired individuals. The role involves prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping and may require assisting patients physically.
