Scope of the CNC Machinist Role
The CNC Machinist is primarily responsible for programming and operating various equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate 3 and 4 axis CNC milling machines.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians to troubleshoot minor mechanical malfunctions.
- Perform operator maintenance by adhering to machine-specific procedures, ensuring accessibility for maintenance personnel, and maintaining a clean work environment.
- Mentor less experienced operators, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Meet production requirements by following dispatch lists, working towards daily production goals, participating in shift crossovers, assisting technicians and supervisors with workflow, and striving to increase personal and module productivity.
- Uphold Quality Requirements by completing necessary training and certifications, conforming to ISO procedures, maintaining continuous machine operation, utilizing proper handling methods, following material review board processes, recognizing quality issues, adhering to applicable processes, identifying specific registration or scaling issues, and enhancing personal and module quality levels.
- Adhere to safety requirements by wearing necessary personal protective equipment, following general housekeeping guidelines, and observing cardinal safety rules.
- Operate miscellaneous equipment such as the laser drill, scope, bevel, and oven.
- Begin to cross-function within the department, including operating routing machines.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to complete sheet metal fabrication (preferred).
- Proficiency in programming using FANUC machine language and experience with HAAS controllers.
- Capability to generate simple programs for a conversational control system on a 3 axis vertical milling machine.
- Knowledgeable with calipers and micrometers; skilled in blueprint reading.
- Ability to cross-train and become certified in most (or all) departmental operations.
- Participation in departmental or company-wide improvement initiatives.
- Ability to serve as a resource for less experienced personnel and accept additional responsibilities.
- Consistent record of high productivity and quality.
- Possess traits such as accountability, adaptability, confidence, coordination, cross-trainability, effective stress management, a positive attitude, helpfulness, goal-orientation, organization, patience, and responsibility.
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends when required.
Education and Experience
- Required Experience: Prior CNC training is mandatory.
- Preferred Experience: Two to four years of PCB experience is desirable.
