Job Description
Lab Assayer
Reporting to the Environmental Manager, this role is responsible for environmental data collection and assaying at the Minto Mine project.
Assayer III - Responsibilities
- Perform assaying accurately following SOPs, to meet project deliverables and timelines
- Accurate data entry into data management software and data recording
- Receives samples and/or supplies
- Equipment maintenance and monitoring
- Logs information in lab book /form and performs internal reviews of lab books/forms
- Ensures consumables, chemicals and samples are well organized and tracked according to the designated method for their area
- Remote field sampling and environmental data collection
- Environmental sampling and preparation of shipments to labs
- Analyzes and interprets environmental data
- Preparing and formatting reports
- Related office tasks, including filing and reception on as a needed basis
- All other related duties as required
Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering or a technical diploma with relevant work experience
- Experience performing Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and colorimetric analysis of water samples
- Strong organizational skills, problem solving, and ability to work with confidential documents
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and oral communication
Level of Complexity
Work performed includes a variety of defined assignments with some independent judgement required. May provide technical advice or training to less experienced technicians/technologists.
Level of Responsibility
Works under a moderate degree of supervision to provide a well-defined end-result or service. Incumbent proceeds on own initiative but supervisor is available to provide direction in the amendment / development of new practices and procedures. Work is reviewed for attainment of objectives, adherence to policies, procedures and timelines. Work impacts the quality or productivity of the unit, team or process supported.
Working Conditions
Normal office working conditions. Field work may be required in cold conditions. Travel required.
