Overview
TRM Labs provides blockchain analytics and AI solutions to help law enforcement, national security agencies, financial institutions, and cryptocurrency businesses detect, investigate, and disrupt crypto-related fraud and financial crime. The AI Agent Engineer role is central to building next-generation AI applications focusing on Large Language Models (LLMs) and agentic systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement a robust agentic framework supporting tool use, context retrieval, memory, and planning.
- Build modular agents to automate investigative tasks and augment analyst decision-making.
- Extend and scale LLM infrastructure including prompt engineering, RAG, and evaluation loops.
- Design safe, observable, and auditable agent behaviors ensuring reliability.
- Evaluate performance metrics such as reasoning, latency, success rate, and iterate based on feedback.
- Contribute to a culture of high ownership, rapid experimentation, and ethical AI deployment.
What We’re Looking For
Candidates should have a strong engineering background, hands-on experience with LLMs, agent frameworks (e.g. LangChain, vector DBs), and a thoughtful approach to system design balancing safety and scalability. Experience with knowledge graphs, task orchestration, and AI safety is a plus. Preference is given to candidates based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Compensation
The estimated base salary range is $215,000 - $230,000, with additional equity participation possibilities.
