Job Description
Patient Care Assistant
Trillium Health Partners is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to join the Patient Support Services department at the Queensway Health Centre. This temporary full-time position offers a contract of up to 12 months and involves assisting nursing staff with patient care.
Role and Responsibilities
As a member of the care giving team, you will assist nursing staff with patient care under the direction of regulated Health Care Professionals and/or Physicians. Your duties will include:
- Delivering meal trays, assisting with feeding, and documenting food consumption.
- Assisting with ambulation, toileting, bathing, and personal hygiene.
- Providing physical assistance with lifts and transfers.
- Performing various patient care duties to meet patients' personal needs and comfort, and documenting as required.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment, including cleaning and infection control activities.
- Reporting patient concerns and alerting team members to any changes in patient condition.
- Cleaning and disinfecting beds, rooms, and equipment according to THP standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent related skills & experience.
- THP certification and/or Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate; Orthopaedic certificate or other related Health Care Certificate also accepted.
- Current Basic Life Support (BCLS) & CPR Certificates are essential.
- Previous Hospital/Health Care experience is strongly preferred.
- Current basic computer skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Knowledge, skill, judgment, and ability to work with patients in an understanding, sensitive, and compassionate manner.
- Self-directed with well-developed organizational skills.
- Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
- A positive attendance and work record is essential.
