Compensation Overview

The annual base salary for this position, Outside Property Associate Claim Representative, ranges from $52,600.00 to $86,800.00. The actual salary will be determined by factors such as the role's scope, complexity, and location, as well as the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, and experience. Employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards as part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program. This position has a target of 1 opening.

The Opportunity

This Outside Property Associate Claim Representative position primarily services Insureds/Agents in and around Washington, DC, Alexandria, or Arlington, VA. The selected candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate at their own expense to this assigned territory. Travelers' Claim Organization is central to our business, providing crucial support to customers during challenging times. As an Associate Claim Rep, Outside Property, you will undergo comprehensive training in claim handling, customer service, and policy interpretation, working alongside experienced professionals. This program, typically 9-12 months, focuses on developing your skills and knowledge to successfully manage first-party property claims, preparing you for independent claims handling and full responsibility. This role is based remotely, involving work at residential and commercial locations, mobile work, work from your primary residence, or the nearest Travelers office. An online pre-employment assessment will be required as part of the hiring process, with accommodation information provided if needed.

What Will You Do?

  • Actively participate in structured training classes covering insurance policies, specific claim processes, systems, and procedures, including virtual, classroom, and on-the-job training.
  • Review, investigate, and document first-party property claims under close supervision.
  • Gather information from policyholders, claimants, witnesses, and third-party providers.
  • Learn to investigate and evaluate all relevant facts and information, including analyzing leases, contracts, by-laws, and other documents that may impact claims.
  • Determine and apply coverage for building damages per policy terms.
  • Establish accurate scope of damages for building and contents losses, utilizing this as a basis for written and/or computer-assisted estimates.
  • Provide timely and professional communication to customers, claimants, and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of claim activity in claim management systems.
  • Demonstrate openness to continuous learning, particularly in AI and digital transformation.
  • Adapt to new technology implementations, system upgrades, and digital tool rollouts while maintaining productivity and service quality.
  • Acquire and maintain relevant Insurance License(s) to comply with state and Travelers’ requirements within three months of starting the job.
  • Participate in our Catastrophe Response Program, which may include deployment to assist customers in other states.
  • Access and inspect all areas of a dwelling or structure, requiring the physical ability to carry, set up, and climb a ladder (approx. 38-49 lbs), walk on roofs, and enter tight spaces (attics, crawl spaces). This physical capability is a requirement for catastrophe deployment, even if not daily.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
