About the Role
The MSx Azure Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing scalable, secure, and cost-effective solutions within the Microsoft Azure platform. This role primarily focuses on Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) to ensure stability, performance, and security in virtual desktop environments, while aligning with business requirements and industry best practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and deploy cloud-based applications and infrastructure using Microsoft Azure.
- Manage Azure resources including Virtual Machines, Web Apps, Networking, and Storage.
- Monitor and optimize cloud performance, availability, and cost.
- Ensure compliance with security standards and implement robust access controls.
- Collaborate with security and operations teams to align solutions with business needs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Azure services and infrastructure issues.
- Maintain documentation for all Azure configurations and deployments.
- Stay current with new Azure features and cloud technology trends.
AVD/VDI Specific Responsibilities
Responsibilities specific to AVD/VDI include:
- Design, implement, and manage Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments.
- Configure and optimize FSLogix profile containers using Azure Files or Azure NetApp Files.
- Manage Entra ID integration and user access controls.
- Implement security hardening and compliance measures for VDI.
- Automate deployment and scaling of AVD resources using scripting and IaC tools.
- Monitor performance using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Diagnostics.
- Troubleshoot virtual desktop and application issues.
- Maintain documentation and runbooks for operational procedures.
Other Responsibilities
May participate in after-hours escalations and 7x24 on call as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and VDI/AVD technologies.
- Strong understanding of AVD architecture and session host deployment.
- Experience with FSLogix, Azure Files, Azure NetApp Files, and Azure Key Vault.
- Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell preferred) and Infrastructure as Code.
- Knowledge of networking, security, and cloud computing principles.
- Familiarity with Azure networking components and identity management.
Other Qualifications
- Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect).
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps and CI/CD practices.
- Experience with monitoring and troubleshooting tools within Azure.
- Understanding of ITIL processes and ticketing systems like ServiceNow.
- Additional scripting proficiency (e.g., Python) is a plus.
