General Summary

Utilize the Toyota Production System and engineering skills to perform Production Engineering functions for doors assembly production processes within Tier 1 automotive manufacturing plants. Establish best practices to develop low cost, flexible production processes to meet Just in Time (JIT) delivery requirements. Plan, source, manage, and install new in-house doors assembly projects including tooling, equipment, and training.

Essential Job Functions

  • Investigate capacity, make vs. buy decisions, and process plans and costs.
  • Develop and implement production preparation plans for new doors assembly tools, equipment, and products.
  • Support research and development activities with technical centers and other departments.
  • Conduct research and testing for new processes and procedures.
  • Create or modify methods, techniques and establish assembly instructions and visual aids.
  • Develop PFMEA, work standards, and maintain quality and lean manufacturing practices.
  • Evaluate automation developments for potential production process improvements.
  • Set up doors assembly processes, train manufacturing staff, and handover completed processes.
  • Coordinate inspections and ensure compliance with established procedures and standards.
  • Manage supplier selection, RFQs, and negotiation for tooling, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Oversee installation, start-up, debugging and tuning of new tools and equipment.
  • Improve and develop new equipment and tooling with management of Engineering Change Instructions (ECI).
  • Prepare technical reports and initiate actions to prevent nonconformities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and manage project budgets and documentation.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.

Experience: Over six years of relevant work experience and over two years in automotive interior manufacturing environments.

Personal/Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, and welding equipment and tooling.
  • Understanding of cost structures and PFMEA development.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and understand GD&T.
  • Experience with Toyota Production System principles.
  • Strong math, project management, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, AutoCAD, and 3D Modeling; CATIA is preferred.

Work Environment/Conditions

Work in an open office and standard automotive plant environment. Up to 30% travel required to vendors and various plants domestically and internationally. Physical demands include extended computer work, walking, standing, and occasional lifting up to 30-50 pounds.
