Travel Step Down Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit
TotalMed is seeking a travel nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Elmira, New York. This is a 13-week travel nursing job with 36 hours per week, typically on 12-hour day shifts. The role is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the PCU, also known as a step-down unit.
Job Responsibilities
As a PCU Travel Nurse, you will care for patients who require close monitoring and frequent assessment but are not critically unstable enough for the ICU. Your duties will include:
- Utilizing computer equipment to monitor cardiac and vital signs.
- Detecting changes in patient condition and intervening in emergencies.
- Administering complex medications, often intravenously, and adjusting dosages as needed.
- Performing basic bedside care and stabilizing critical cardiac patients.
- Changing dressings, inserting catheters, and starting IVs.
- Preparing, administering, and recording prescribed medications, reporting adverse reactions.
- Monitoring and adjusting specialized equipment, interpreting electronic displays.
- Initiating corrective actions based on monitoring equipment data.
Physical Requirements
PCU Travel Nurses should be able to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, lean, and stoop. The role requires lifting up to 20 pounds routinely, and up to 50 pounds when assisting with patient mobility. Strong stress management skills and the ability to relate to diverse age groups and backgrounds are essential due to the fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of recent acute care experience.
- ACLS certification.
- BLS certification.
- NIH certification.
- Additional certifications may be required.
