The Opportunity: Technical Product Manager at Torq
We are seeking an experienced Technical Product Manager to take ownership of Torq's Runtime domain. This critical role involves managing the core engine that facilitates millions of workflow executions for security teams globally. You will lead our events pipeline, orchestration, and execution infrastructure, ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability.
What You'll Be Doing
- Become an expert in all runtime aspects, including events pipeline, orchestration, execution, Runners, and their underlying infrastructure.
- Own the end-to-end Runner experience, encompassing deployment models, resource management, connectivity, and troubleshooting.
- Conduct customer research and technical deep-dives to understand crucial scale requirements, reliability needs, and user pain points.
- Analyze customer escalations to identify recurring patterns and translate these into precise, actionable engineering requirements.
- Make critical decisions regarding architectural trade-offs, reliability, performance, and quality to successfully meet business objectives.
- Work closely with engineering teams to define, develop, and launch new runtime capabilities across our distributed execution layer (e.g., gRPC services, PubSub messaging, dispatcher logic).
- Collaborate effectively with the Builder Experience team to ensure new runtime capabilities are correctly integrated and surfaced within the product.
Who We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a curious, self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about driving innovation in security automation.
- 3-5 years of experience as a product manager focused on backend or infrastructure products, OR 2+ years in a Product Manager role following a backend engineering background.
- Hands-on experience with container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes (EKS, GKE, or OpenShift).
- Fluency in cloud infrastructure, particularly comfortable with AWS and GCP compute, networking, and storage services.
- Demonstrated experience with high-scale systems capable of handling significant event throughput or distributed execution.
- A data-driven approach, coupled with the ability to ask insightful questions to uncover root causes and opportunities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling you to effectively drive teams and interfaces without direct authority.
- Strong technical communication skills, capable of explaining complex distributed systems to customers and translating their challenges into clear specifications.
- A Computer Science degree or an equivalent strong technical background.
Nice to Have
- Experience with message-driven architectures such as PubSub or Kafka.
- Familiarity with gRPC and service-to-service communication protocols.
- Background in security, DevOps, or automation platforms.
- Experience with hybrid deployment models, involving cloud services connected to customer-managed agents/runners.
