The Team

The Ted Rogers School of Management's Diversity Institute at Toronto Metropolitan University was founded in 1999 to improve equity, diversity and inclusion practices in organizations. The Diversity Institute develops customized strategies, programming, and resources to promote new, interdisciplinary knowledge and practice about diversity with respect to gender, race/ethnicity, Indigenous peoples, abilities, and sexual orientation. It collaborates with industry, government, not-for-profits, and academics.

Ted Rogers School of Management at Toronto Metropolitan University (TRSM) is developing collaborative, creative leaders who will drive 21st century business forward while making a positive impact on society. Home to nearly 10,000 students and more than 250 industry-connected faculty, TRSM is Canada's leading diverse, entrepreneurial business school centred in an urban learning environment. TRSM offers 12 Bachelor of Commerce degrees, two Bachelor of Health Administration degrees, the Ted Rogers MBA, Professional Masters Diplomas, Executive Education courses, and a Masters of Science in Management. The Opportunity

If you answered yes to the questions above you will want to hear more about the Senior Research Associate in the Diversity Institute at Toronto Metropolitan University.

The Senior Research Associate manages the research staff of the Diversity Institute Consulting Team on a day-to-day basis, and provides professional assistance to the Director in all matters relating to the Institute's research and administration. They oversee research design and methodology, particularly relating to the customized research.

In association with other Diversity Institute professionals, the Senior Research Associate engages in the research and writing of research and client reports, papers, strategies and action plans and the dissemination of research findings and research results including the promotion of the Institute in speeches and talks and in communications with the media. The Senior Research Associate will also engage in developing research for training and to guide consultations, interviews, and focus groups as part of projects.

The Senior Research Associate will manage projects and deliverables and engage in client and partner meetings to share updates and results. Further, the Senior Research Associate will identify new project opportunities (through partnerships, proposals, and grants) and will execute proposals to secure new opportunities.

In addition, the position involves the education, training and mentoring of the Institute’s research staff, advising of graduate students, managing team work and deliverables for projects, and sharing ideas and approaches and working cooperatively with all Diversity Institute professionals.

Qualifications

To help us learn more about you, please provide a cover letter and resume describing how you meet the following required qualifications:

  • PhD in social science and humanities, including business, sociology, psychology, information science, education and other areas
  • Advanced knowledge and research experiences with qualitative and quantitative data analysis
  • Advanced knowledge in questionnaire design
  • Experience identifying and using credible data sources including Statistics Canada data
  • Advanced knowledge with statistical analysis and models and excellent skills with statistical analysis software, such as Excel, SPSS, Stata, R or Python
  • Demonstrated strong writing skills
  • Experiences in supervising research assistants
  • Research experience in the following areas will be an asset: AI use in business, Skills training and employment, Environment and sustainability studies.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in managing diverse, large and complex research projects, both in academic and industry settings, including:
    • Conducting sector specific research to find data and insights
    • Managing client and partner facing projects including reviewing client materials to suggest recommendations
    • Managing deliverables and timelines
  • Experience working in a research environment and the dissemination of research findings to professional, business and academic audiences.
  • Experience in writing research and grant proposals and understanding of diversity issues in the workplace.
  • Experience developing surveys and managing consultations, interviews, and focus groups.
  • Success in developing proposals for a variety of funding sources, including Tri-Agency, government and private sector, is an asset
  • Demonstrated organizational skills including communication and time management skills.
