About the role
Software Engineer
The Server Software Engineer at Topgolf is responsible for designing and developing microservices and backend services that support digital and venue systems, interfacing with existing Topgolf technologies. Working with a small team of engineers, designers, and product managers, you will contribute to building the next generation of digital and venue products for Topgolf.
Job Responsibilities
- Contribute to and drive development of the microservices and backend technology stack (25%)
- Design and write high-quality code, leveraging AI-assisted development tools and practices to improve velocity and quality (30%)
- Design and implement database schema (15%)
- Deploy, evaluate performance, optimize, and test microservices and backend software (5%)
- Collaborate with other internal departments (client development, design, QA) (15%)
- Document software and features for internal and external engineering teams, including AI-generated specs and code artifacts (5%)
- Apply AI/ML techniques or tooling to improve backend systems, developer workflows, or product features (5%)
Critical Skills & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience (Required)
- 5+ years of experience in Java, Go, or other OOP/statically typed programming language (Required)
- 3+ years of experience in Scala or Go programming (Preferred)
- 1+ years of experience in Database Schema Design and Maintenance (Required)
- Experience designing, building, or operating microservices architectures (Preferred)
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) within a modern SDLC (Preferred)
- Familiarity with Spec Driven Development or AI-augmented engineering workflows (Preferred)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and judgment
- Proficient in debugging and performance optimizations
- Highly motivated self-starter with a passion for making high-quality software
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong sense of ownership and drive
