About The Role: Senior People Operations Manager

This role focuses on process-driven, hands-on execution within a remote-first, international university. As a Senior People Operations Manager, you will be instrumental in ensuring the operational efficiency, accuracy, and compliance of all People processes and day-to-day workflows.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • People Operations & Administration: Own and manage employee systems (e.g., HRIS), ensuring data accuracy and scalable workflows. Prepare contracts, amendments, certificates, and critical employee documentation. Continuously audit, improve, and standardize People Operations processes to boost efficiency and clarity. Drive automation in HRIS, payroll, and onboarding/offboarding. Lead the operational execution of the employee lifecycle, including seamless recruiting support, onboarding, and offboarding. Manage monthly payroll with external providers and ensure compliance with German labor law and international employment setups. Coordinate the bi-annual growth cycle.
  • Recruiting Operations: Oversee and lead recruiting processes as needed, ensuring high-quality job postings, professional candidate communication, and efficient interview scheduling. Conduct and refine initial screening interviews. Manage external recruitment partners for sourcing and screening when multiple roles are open. Ensure data integrity for data-driven decision-making in recruiting.
  • Internal Coordination & Events: Drive the organization of company-wide Workations and Onsites (research, bookings, coordination). Manage internal calendars, documentation, and follow-up processes. Serve as the primary point of contact for procedural and administrative People-related matters.

What We Are Looking For

We seek candidates with 5+ years of experience in People Operations, employee administration, or similar operational roles, ideally in a fast-paced or remote-first environment. Essential qualities include:

  • Operational Excellence: Thriving on structured, detail-oriented workflows and proven ownership of complex operational processes.
  • Discretion: Extensive experience with sensitive data, confidentiality, and data accuracy.
  • Independence: High autonomy, reliability, and proactive identification of process needs.
  • Tech Mastery: Power user of digital tools like HRIS systems, Slack, and Notion for efficiency.
  • Legal & Payroll Expertise: Native-level German proficiency, confident with German labor law, contracts, and complex payroll.
  • International Mindset: Fluent in English, comfortable in a diverse, English-speaking environment.
  • Location: Preferably based in Germany and/or open to occasional travel (e.g., Berlin or Frankfurt). Professional fluency (C1 or higher) in both English and German is required.
