Role Overview: Senior Product Analyst at Toast

As a Senior Product Analyst at Toast, you will be instrumental in understanding customer behavior and guiding R&D efforts. This role involves developing measurement frameworks, building comprehensive dashboards, and leveraging AI tools to integrate data, analytics, and insights into the product development lifecycle for a specific line of business, all while ensuring product consistency and integration. Operating within a high-ambition, startup-like environment focused on experimentation, testing, and iteration, accurate data is paramount to success. Your contributions will directly impact product performance and customer outcomes, working closely with leadership.

The Product Analytics Team within R&D Operations

The Product Analytics team is a vital part of R&D Operations at Toast. The R&D Operations team's mission is to enable efficient, effective, and scalable product development. They remove barriers, align teams, and keep focus on solving critical customer problems. This team bridges Product, UX, Engineering, Marketing, and Customer Success, ensuring teams have the necessary processes, strategies, and insights to create significant impact.

A Day In The Life (Responsibilities)

  • Partner with product, engineering, data infrastructure, finance, and operations to generate analyses, datasets, and data models crucial for measuring and informing product development.
  • Cultivate deep systemic knowledge of data from operational systems and product data to devise strategies for continuous improvement of reporting capabilities.
  • Write complex SQL queries and utilize advanced analytics tools to create datasets for product, operational, and revenue reporting, including statistical modeling and forecasting.
  • Develop scalable, sustainable tools and dashboards to automate reporting and deliver insights, enabling quick and accurate assessment of product and process performance.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for analytics to add value beyond standard business requests, adopting a "canary in a coal mine" approach to data.
  • Foster an experimentation culture and establish the necessary data structures and processes to enhance product development through experimentation.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, presenting insights and analyses in product and leadership forums as a key cross-functional partner.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Data/Analytics Engineering, Business Intelligence, and Data Platform teams to ensure a unified analytics strategy.
  • Provide training and enablement for self-service capabilities using the company's analytics tool stack.

What You'll Need To Thrive (Requirements)

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field with at least 5 years of experience in Product Analytics, Data Analysis, Data Science, or a related domain; or a Master’s degree with 6 years of related experience; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of how analytics supports product development, with experience in metric design and standard reporting practices.
  • Demonstrated robust methods for ensuring data accuracy and completeness through QA processes.
  • Proficiency in SQL and statistical data modeling skills (e.g., SQL, Python, R).
  • Advanced knowledge of ETL, data pipelining practices, and data model design.
  • Experience translating stakeholder requirements into effective data architecture, dashboard, and reporting assets.
  • Hands-on experience with leading product analytics and dashboarding tools (e.g., Amplitude, Heap, Pendo, Tableau, Hex).
  • Practical experience with A/B testing, experimentation, and behavioral analytics.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling abilities, capable of simplifying complex data into clear, actionable insights for all organizational levels.
  • A self-starter mindset, eager to build and evolve initiatives from the ground up.

Bonus Ingredients*

  • Relevant work experience in a large-scale data environment, high-growth tech, or SaaS company.
  • Experience with Hex, Looker, Snowflake, Sigma, Airflow, GitHub, AWS, dbt, Python, and/or equivalent toolsets, including AI tools.
  • Experience using backend data from operational sources like Netsuite, Salesforce, or RevPro/Zuora Revenue.
  • Familiarity with Financial and Accounting concepts, data, and reporting.
