About the role

Product Tech Counsel

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Product Tech Counsel to join their General Counsel’s Office. This role involves advising on the legal, regulatory, and strategic aspects of a global technology and services portfolio, with a focus on AI-enabled products in a complex regulatory landscape. You will collaborate with Product, Technology, Marketing, Commercial, and Compliance teams to foster innovation while managing risks across different jurisdictions.

About The Role

In this role as Product Tech Counsel, you will:

  • Advise across the full product lifecycle, from ideation and design through development, launch, iteration, and sunsetting of products within Thomson Reuters’ global technology product portfolio.
  • Serve as a trusted legal partner to Product, Technology, and Marketing teams, identifying, assessing, and managing legal, regulatory, and business-reputation risks in dynamic markets.
  • Provide subject-matter guidance on global AI regulation, including emerging and enacted laws for artificial intelligence and automated decision-making.
  • Advise on global regulatory frameworks such as advertising, intellectual property, and consumer protection, with a focus on the UK, EU, LATAM, and AEM regions.
  • Review and advise on marketing strategies, ensuring product claim substantiation and reviewing marketing assets across various channels.
  • Support product partnerships, integrations, and co-development initiatives, collaborating with Commercial and Product teams to protect Thomson Reuters’ intellectual property and ensure compliance with AI laws.
  • Support the development and improvement of scalable processes for consistent decision-making and faster execution across global teams.
  • Collaborate within the General Counsel’s Office and across functions to contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives related to AI governance, product compliance by design, and regulatory readiness.

About You

You're a fit for the role of Product Tech Counsel if your background includes:

  • A law degree (or equivalent/conversion) and current practicing lawyer status (current bar admission/practicing certificate).
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a law firm and/or in-house environment advising on technology-driven products, technology transactions, and/or consumer protection.
  • Familiarity with, or a strong interest in, AI-related regulation and governance, as well as global intellectual property, advertising, and consumer protection laws.
  • The ability to balance legal risk with business objectives, offering practical, solution-oriented advice in developing legal areas.
  • A process-oriented mindset with experience in building, improving, or scaling legal workflows, tools, or governance models for complex organizations.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in a global, matrixed operating model.
  • Initiative, intellectual curiosity, and comfort operating amid ambiguity.

Experience in a technical discipline, prior exposure to AI/ML concepts, or work in a highly regulated technology sector is a plus.
