Internship Logistics

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week.
  • Duration: 12-week hourly, paid internship (May 26, 2026 – August 17, 2026).
  • Work Model: Hybrid in McLean, VA or Remote.
  • Equipment: All necessary equipment provided by TRSS at the start of the internship.

At TRSS, we use global data and insights to help address the most critical threats and emerging risks. We leverage data, technology and people in partnership with government agencies, law enforcement and corporates to assess risks and protect common interests.

TRSS is looking for a talented and motivated Data Science Intern with data science and programming skills to create, design, and build a data science project. In this role, you will leverage Thomson Reuters data to help understand and address an important U.S. government related data project. You will receive mentorship and advice from an experienced team of data scientists, research scientists, and software engineers. At the end of the internship, you will present your ideas and progress to the company as part of a larger session of intern presentations.

About The Role

As a Data Science Intern, you will:

  • Work closely with a team of data scientists, research scientists, and software engineers to create, design, and build a proof-of-concept related to the field of national and global security.
  • Write well-designed, well-constructed, and well-tested code.
  • Perform statistical analyses or create machine learning models.
  • Present your progress at the end of the internship.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Data Science Intern if you have/are:

  • Any of the following academic levels in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Basic/Applied Sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field: Junior or Senior currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, Completed Bachelor's degree, Currently enrolled in a graduate program.
  • Experience coding in at least one object-oriented programming language or functional programming language (e.g. Python, Java, R, Scala, C/C++).
  • Basic knowledge of statistics or machine learning principles (advanced knowledge is a bonus).
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) for various audiences.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • A desire to continuously learn new skills and technologies.
  • Self-motivation and proactivity.
  • U.S. Citizenship essential to comply with government contract/agency or department of Federal Government requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. national security clearance.

Note: despite the requirement above, you will not need to apply for a clearance in this internship.
